FAQ's

What is Therapy?

Psychotherapy (sometimes called Talk Therapy) refers to a variety of treatments aimed at helping a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Most psychotherapy takes place when a licensed mental health professional and client meet one-on-one or with other clients in a group setting.

What happens in a Therapy Session?

Each session is tailored to the client and will vary based on individual needs. In the beginning, we will discuss what you are committed to accomplishing through our work together and we will begin to create a plan to achieve your goals. Periodically, I will give you assignments to help direct your progress. We will work together to acknowledge obstacles, explore alternate perspectives, and celebrate successes. At the conclusion of each session, we will revisit your goals and evaluate the next steps that are needed to achieve these results.

Payment Methods

At this time, I offer private pay via Stripe. Private pay provides greater flexibility in the client's treatment. Instead of focusing on meeting the sometimes unrealistic expectations of insurance companies, I would rather put that energy into meeting the needs of my clients. New payment options have been added with the following insurance companies: Aetna, Cigna and Medicaid. Please inquire for verification of benefits.

How can I afford services without insurance?

  • Using your Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Sometimes you or your spouse's employer can cover the cost of a certain number of sessions. Yes, to prepaid therapy! Using your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA): FSAs and HSAs are pre-tax accounts you can use to pay for healthcare-related expenses.
  • Less Frequent Sessions: If it seems fiscally challenging to commit to weekly sessions, consider scheduling sessions every other week, every three weeks, or monthly.
  • Mini Sessions: 30-minute sessions are a creative, helpful, time-saving, & low-cost option.
  • Submitting Superbills: You can request and submit monthly Superbills for reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Note: As an advocate in the Mental Health Field, I try to provide as much assistance as I can to individuals in my community and other areas. While many people are interested in seeking out therapeutic services in today's economy, I understand that money can sometimes be a barrier. I try to meet my clients where they are so I offer a limited number of sliding scale slots based on income. Please note that sliding scales are not always available. A Superbill is a clinical receipt or invoice that can be submitted as a claim to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Make sure you contact your provider to learn more about "out of network" benefits because the percentage of the reimbursement may differ based on numerous factors.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require a 24-hour notice to cancel all sessions. Please be sure to contact me if you will not be able to make your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged for the session.

How long do people generally work with a Therapist?

To experience the effectiveness of Therapy, I suggest clients make an initial three-month commitment. At the end of the three months, we will evaluate progress and discuss options for continued sessions.

Is Therapy confidential?

What we discuss will be held in confidence and not shared with others. However, as a mandated reporter, if you disclose that you have intent to harm yourself, harm someone or someone is physically, sexually, or emotionally abusing you, that information will be shared with the proper authorities for your safety.
